Understanding Fence Knots

Hinge Joint

The hinge joint is the most common fence knot in agricultural fencing, found on both low carbon and high tensile products. The knot is formed by wrapping the vertical stay wire pieces around the line wire at each intersection. This design can also absorb animal impact without damage and is the most economical knot choice available.

Fixed Knot

Fixed Knot fence is considered a top of the line product constructed using high tensile wire and a knot that utilizes solid vertical stay wires. The fixed knot increases the vertical strength of the fence and allows for increased post spacing. The knot is a separate piece of wire tightly wrapped around the line wire and stay wire. Fixed knot fence is very resistant to animal damage and is available for a variety of fencing needs.

Square Knot

The Square Knot design uses an extra piece of wire that connects the line wire to the solid stay wire for maximum strength, preventing the fence from bending or sagging. This knot is smooth, so it won’t cause injuries to your animals. Its strength can withstand even the toughest animals and harsh weather while staying flexible. This wire design is often used for products marketed as sheep and goat fencing and horse fencing.
