Hardware cloth is a type of welded mesh manufactured from galvanized steel wire. The openings are smaller than traditional welded mesh – usually between 0.25 and 0.5 inch (0.64 and 1.27 centimeters). It is used for coarse sieves, animal cages and other kinds of DIY projects around the home and garden. It is stronger than Hex mesh (chicken wire) due to the lower gauge used.
